Advanced Exploration Fellowship
The Advanced Exploration Fellowship provides structured research placements for exceptional researchers at the intersection of propulsion science, systems architecture, and deep space mission design. The program is governed by a formal review committee process, institutional governance oversight, and compliance review aligned with national research fellowship standards.
Fellowship governance aligned with
Eligibility
The Advanced Exploration Fellowship is designed for researchers at the postdoctoral level or equivalent who have demonstrated sustained technical capability in propulsion science, systems architecture, or adjacent research disciplines. Selection is competitive and based on research quality, institutional alignment, and compliance eligibility.
- Postdoctoral researchers in propulsion science, nuclear engineering, or orbital mechanics with peer-reviewed research record
- Early-career propulsion scientists with demonstrated research capability and institutional alignment
- Systems architecture specialists with deep space mission design experience and relevant academic or professional credentials
Program Structure & Requirements
Structured Research Proposal Submission
Fellowship candidates are required to submit a formal research proposal outlining technical objectives, methodology, anticipated deliverables, and institutional alignment. Proposals are evaluated against active QPRL and propulsion research priorities. Incomplete or insufficiently detailed proposals will not be advanced through the review process.
Review Committee Process
All fellowship applications are reviewed by an institutional review committee comprising senior technical staff, governance representatives, and program leadership. The committee evaluates research alignment, technical quality, compliance eligibility, and institutional fit. Selection decisions are final and are not subject to public disclosure.
12–24 Month Defined Research Placements
Fellows are assigned to structured research programs with defined scope, milestones, and deliverables. Placement duration is calibrated to the complexity of the assigned research agenda and institutional program requirements. Extensions are subject to institutional review and are not guaranteed.
Structured Deliverables
Each fellowship includes a defined set of technical deliverables — research reports, design analyses, simulation results, or prototype demonstrations — with scheduled milestone reviews. Deliverables are subject to institutional governance review and archival within the institutional knowledge management system.
Governance Oversight
All fellowship research activities operate under institutional governance frameworks, including Quality Management System oversight, Independent Technical Review, and applicable compliance controls. Research scope is subject to Configuration Control Board review where technical changes affect program architecture.
Multi-Disciplinary Integration
Fellows are integrated into the broader institutional research ecosystem, with structured interfaces to QPRL, Advanced Propulsion, Materials Science, Quantum Computing, and Integrated Mission Intelligence teams as relevant to their research agenda. Cross-disciplinary collaboration is facilitated through formal institutional processes.
Executive Technical Reviews
Fellows present their work to senior technical leadership through formal review processes, gaining structured exposure to institutional decision-making frameworks, programmatic context, and prime contractor operational standards.
Institutional Publication Pathways (Where Approved)
Support for peer-reviewed publication and conference participation is available where research content has cleared institutional review for public release. Publication support includes co-authorship with senior staff, travel funding consideration, and presentation preparation support. All publications are subject to compliance screening, IP review, and institutional approval prior to submission.
Compliance Review
All fellowship activities are subject to export compliance review under ITAR and EAR. International fellows require additional regulatory assessment prior to commencement. Fellowship participation does not imply access to classified information, clearance sponsorship, or guaranteed security access.
Pathway to Long-Term Technical Leadership
Fellows who demonstrate sustained technical contribution, institutional alignment, and leadership potential may be considered for permanent technical staff positions and advanced program roles. Transition to employment is not guaranteed and is subject to institutional need, funding availability, and performance evaluation outcomes.
Fellowship Disclosures & Compliance
Fellowship participation does not constitute an offer or guarantee of employment or continued funding.
Funding for fellowship positions is not guaranteed and is subject to institutional budget availability at the time of placement.
International fellows are subject to export compliance review. Eligibility is determined case-by-case under ITAR and EAR.
Fellowship research does not involve classified information, clearance-required facilities, or security-designated access.
All research deliverables remain institutional property. No intellectual property transfer is implied.
Publication of fellowship research is subject to institutional review, compliance screening, and approval prior to any submission.
The Advanced Exploration Fellowship maintains a selective admissions process. All selection decisions are final.
